Santouka Ramen @ The Central

In some of the food blogs, we had heard good reviews of this Ramen, so we grabbed the opportunity to try. This place is tucked away in a corner of The Central, behind The Rendezvous (famous for their Nasi Padang from Hotel Rendezvous). A queue had already formed for this small 30 seater restaurant. What I did not like about this place is the service. Predominantly Vietnamese and Filipino staff, this Japanese place lacked authenticity. But what bothered me more was their less than polite service. Rushing us to order, and frowning and talking amongst themselves. Perhaps their other outlets would be better.

At least the food wasn't that bad.
Apparently it is known for their Kurobuta. So we ordered a plate of the pork (Toroniku) as a starter. The pork was very flavourful, and tender - almost melt in your mouth. The Gyoza was well charred and a balanced minced pork filling.

I had the Kara Miso as it was one of the more popular ones. The broth was indeed different to the mainstream ramen outlets. It was like Suzuki's where they used premium pork bone. You could taste that it wasn't from a premix of sorts. The noodles however did not taste very handmade, with a consistency almost like instant noodles. So if you do, come for the Broth and the Pork. And the strange lonely egg on the side.
